January 22 Truman Lake Fishing Report
This week’s Truman Lake Fishing Report is brought to you by Sportsman’s Outfitter and Marine and Mark Huey’s Guide Service.
Mark has been on the water consistently and reports strong crappie bite despite colder conditions. Many fish are roaming shallow, with others still holding tight to trees. Anglers are finding success dipping trees or casting past roaming schools and slowly working jigs through them.
Soft plastics and paddle tails have been producing well, including slot-limit style paddle tails and smaller profile plastics. While some anglers are having luck on hair jigs, paddle tails have been the most consistent option recently.
Catfish action remains solid, especially near the dam where fish are grouped up in deeper water. The upper end of the lake has been decent as well, though anglers should expect changing conditions with an incoming cold front.
Ice is starting to form in protected areas, especially where wind isn’t keeping water open. While the main lake near the dam typically takes longer to freeze, anglers should monitor conditions closely as temperatures drop.
Mark also shared upcoming appearances at the Wichita show on Valentine’s Day weekend, the St. Louis Sports Show, and the Big Buck Outdoor Show later in February. Booking at a show comes with a solid goodie bag and early-season availability.
If you’re looking to book a guided trip, Mark still has limited weekend afternoons and weekday openings available. Spring dates are filling fast.
