Truman Lake Fishing Report – December 11, 2024
With Mark Huey’s Guide Service & Sportsman’s Outfitter & Marine
Truman Lake is still producing as we hit mid-December. Even with freezing creeks, high winds, and strange current, there’s good action if you target the right areas. Here’s what Mark is seeing this week.
Crappie Report
The creek bite slowed after the freeze. Mark still caught fish breaking ice, but it’s not what it was. The more consistent bite is on the main lake, especially on stake beds in 6–10 feet. Long-poling is the go-to, with Living the Dream plastics and Wild Willy’s Small Fries performing best. Slip bobbers can work but long-poling is the easiest way to stay on the fish right now.
Catfish Report
Catfish are hot. The pattern is simple: follow the shad. High winds made some spots unreachable today, and the current was running upstream, which made reading bites tricky. Most fish showed up as slack lines instead of rod pulls, so keep lines tight and reel when anything feels off. Even with tough conditions, the bite was strong.
White Bass Report
A few white bass are still around the creeks on white rooster tails. On calmer days, they’re showing up on wind-blown banks and points in shallow water. Not a heavy bite, but still catchable.
Guide Availability
Mark has one or two days left next week for December trips. January is limited due to sports show season, and February is nearly full. March opens back up with strong fishing ahead.
Boat Show Season
Sportsman’s Outfitter & Marine has free tickets to the Kansas City Boat & Fishing Show. Stop by the dealership to grab yours. Mark will be at the KC Boat Show, the Collinsville Let’s Go Fishing Show, and the Wichita Boat Show. Great chance to meet him or book a trip.
If you want it even shorter, just tell me how tight you want it.
