The early-winter bite on Truman Lake continues to impress. Even with snow on the ground in parts of Missouri and temperatures dropping into the teens at night, crappie, white bass, and catfish are all feeding well.

Crappie Bite: Strong Under a Bobber

Mark spent Thanksgiving week taking family out on the lake, and the crappie did not disappoint. Fish are holding shallow up the creeks, and the same pattern continues to produce:

  • Bobber fishing 15–18 inches deep

  • Focusing on standing timber and stumps

  • Fish are aggressive and willing to come out and crush the bait

Multiple days produced full cleaning tables of crappie, showing the bite is still very consistent for early December.

White Bass Chasing Shad

While idling out of a creek arm, Mark noticed shad flipping on the surface. A few quick casts turned into 26–27 white bass in a short window. When these schools push bait to the top, it can produce fast, fun action.

Catfish Following Shad

Catfishing remains steady across Truman Lake. The shad are shifting around with the weather, which means the catfish are staying on the move too. Some days they’re shallow, other days they’re holding in ditches near the channel.

If you find the shad, you’ll find the catfish.

December Fishing Conditions

Some back creeks are beginning to freeze, but warmer days—like the forecasted mid-40s this weekend—will keep plenty of water open. Trips are still available, and Mark is ready to go as long as the conditions allow.
