Truman Lake is finally starting to open back up after recent ice. Boat ramps that were frozen just days ago are now turning slushy, and anglers have been able to break through and get on the water — especially around Bucksaw.

The crappie bite hasn’t changed much. According to Mark Huey of Mark Huey’s Guide Service, fish are still hungry and ready to eat, just like before the freeze. As access improves, expect more consistent reports in the coming weeks.

Mark is heading to the Wichita Sport Show this week. If you’re in the area, stop by his booth, scan the QR code, and follow him for a chance to win giveaways including Wild Willie’s Baits.

Looking ahead to spring:

        A few April dates remain

        Plenty of availability in May

Some March afternoons are still open

Two trips scheduled next week and two the following week

If you’ve been thinking about learning Truman Lake, targeting crappie, catfish, or white bass, or getting LiveScope training, now is the time to get on the books.

This report is brought to you by Mark Huey’s Guide Service and Sportsman’s Outfitter & Marine in Belton, Missouri — your local Kansas City dealer for Lund, Harris, and Bayliner boats.

We’ll have a more detailed on-the-water report next week as trips pick back up.
