Truman Lake Fishing Report – February 19
Shallow Crappie Bite Heating Up on the Tebow Arm
The Truman Lake crappie bite is phenomenal as we head into late February. Mark Huey of Mark Huey’s Guide Service has been on the water daily and reports strong numbers of crappie holding in 5 to 9 feet of water on the Tebow arm.
Most fish are relating to slick standing timber, with one to four fish per tree. The key has been starting at the top of the water column and working down the tree. Roaming fish are also suspended high, and a bobber presentation has been especially effective.
A new Wild Willie’s jig color called “Bleeding Ghost” has been producing extremely well. When fish show a clear preference for a color, it’s worth switching immediately.
Catfish are also active. Shad are beginning to move out of the channel and scatter across shallow flats in two to three feet of water, and the catfish are following. There are still deep channel fish holding in 18 to 23 feet, but shallow water has been more enjoyable and productive.
White bass action has been limited, with moss along the banks making casting tough in super shallow areas.
Mark has limited afternoon openings in March and a few available dates in April. If you’re looking to fish Truman Lake this spring, now is the time to get on the calendar.
