Mid-July Fishing Report: Truman Lake Heating Up
The heat of summer isn’t slowing down the bite at Truman Lake! Mark Huey, veteran guide with 20 years on the water, reports that the crappie bite is as strong as ever across the lake. From Bucksaw to mid-Grand, anglers are loading up limits fast.
“Right now, you can catch them about any way you want,” Mark says. Jigs and spoons tipped with minnows are producing well, and there’s success pulling crankbaits and even spider rigging. Conservation brush piles and roaming schools are both holding solid fish.
The catfish bite is also picking up with fish coming off the nest in recent weeks. Whether you’re dragging baits or anchoring with fresh cut shad, both the upper and main lake areas are productive — just vary your depth. Look for 3–12 ft up the lake and 8–20 ft on the main lake.
White bass activity has tapered slightly but you can still target roaming fish on main lake humps by trolling or anchoring and casting.
