Truman Lake Fishing Report – March 5
Fishing season is starting to come alive on Truman Lake and guide Mark Huey is already seeing strong activity from both crappie and catfish.
Mark checked in from the boat ramp before heading out with clients and shared what anglers can expect right now on Truman.
Crappie Fishing Update
Crappie are still roaming but have moved slightly deeper compared to previous weeks.
Right now many of the fish Mark is targeting are sitting about 7 to 8 feet down in 15 feet of water. Because these fish are spread out and moving, spider rigging has become one of the most efficient ways to catch them.
Mark plans to run eight rods off the front of the boat using double minnow rigs while slowly trolling through roaming schools.
This approach allows anglers to cover water and locate fish quickly while presenting multiple baits at different depths.
Catfish Bite
The catfish bite is currently very good, especially in the upper Tebo arm of Truman Lake.
Fish are scattered across shallow flats following schools of shad that are beginning to migrate out of deeper channels.
Because the fish are spread out instead of grouped tightly together, anglers are able to fan cast multiple rods across flats and get consistent action.
Fresh cut shad continues to be the best bait, and baitfish are plentiful right now across the lake.
Guide Trip Availability
With boat show season wrapped up, Mark is now fully focused on fishing.
Spring dates are filling quickly, but there are still a few openings available.
Mark currently has
• Some afternoon trips available
• Limited openings in April
• A few openings in May
Anyone interested in getting on the water should reach out soon to secure a date.
