Truman Lake Fishing Report – October 16, 2025
Brought to you by Mark Huey’s Guide Service and Sportsman’s Outfitter & Marine
Fall is inching its way into Truman Lake, and while the temps haven’t dropped as fast as we’d like, the fish are starting to act like it’s autumn. In this week’s update, veteran guide Mark Huey shares what he’s seeing on the water and what anglers can expect if they’re heading out soon.
Crappie Update
Crappie are in a clear transitional phase. On the main lake, they’re sticking close to the bottom in 9 to 14 feet of water. Mark reported fish “plastered in the mud” during his latest trip. While that can make them tough to spot, they’re still catchable if you stay patient and use minnows or spoons.
In the creeks, things are starting to heat up. Fish are showing up suspended on trees anywhere from 3 to 11 feet down, with the best water depths ranging from 12 to 16 feet. It’s not quite a full-blown fall pattern yet, but they’re slowly making their move.
Catfish Report
The catfish bite has been all about the wind. When the wind is blowing—even in foggy conditions—the bite is solid. But as soon as the sun comes out and the lake flattens, it’s like someone flipped the switch off. Mark says if you’re planning a catfish trip, watch the forecast and plan around windy days for the best action.
White Bass Activity
White bass are starting to show up more consistently. The best success has come from casting crankbaits to wind-blown chunk rock banks and points. Calm conditions make them tougher to track, but you can still pick up a few jigging humps or dragging baits through deeper areas.
Booking Availability
Mark still has a few openings in November and more in December. If you’re looking to catch crappie, catfish, or white bass this fall, now’s the time to lock in your trip.
